VEVA Thursday Workshop

Good and productive meeting in the shop last Thursday.

In the first half of the VEVA meeting we upgraded the charging algorithms and firmware for the chargers in two Zenn cars.  That was fun and really simple to do once we found the right wires.

In the second half of the meeting we installed O’Sparky’s 9inch motor. Getting the motor in was a major milestone. Considering the size of this motor and the small space into which it had to go this went extremely well thanks to Tag, Tony, Joe and Rick who did the muscling while I took the pictures.

Wa Senate proposes $100 EV Fee

Seattle NPR affiliate KUOW 94.9fm featured a discussion on the proposed $100 Electric Car Fee introduced in Wa. Senate Bill 5251 by Senate Transportation Committee Chairwoman Mary Margaret Haugen. Hosted on The Conversation with Ross Reynolds, guests and callers responded to the $100 “fee (not a tax)” proposal. While all participants agreed that EVs and alternative-fuel vehicles should contribute to the maintenance of road, few thought the flat-rate “band-aid” proposal was well formulated or forward thinking. Most suggestions favored a system based on mileage and vehicle weight which could include NPG, biodiesel, hydrogen and hybrid vehicles (which would all remain untaxed under the current Bill). Oregon’s proposed House Bill 2328 has outlined a similar milage based covering model year 2014 EVs and plug-in hybrids. Hear the full mp3 audio.
